Remember that compass? It was a special compass unlike any other which he bartered from a voodoo mystic. Unlike a normal compass that is bound by the magnetic field of the Earth to point north, this magical instrument instead points to the owners deepest desires. The compass appeared to be useless to those that weren’t privy to it’s supernatural qualities. It couldn’t navigate in a conventional sense, but it pointed to whatever the owner wanted most at that moment. And at one point, Jack struggles with this concept because he thinks he wants one thing, but his compass it pointing at something else. Something that he didn’t even know he wanted.
